Inbavanam also known, as “happy forest” is an emerging concept for the sustainable development of economically and socially underprivileged community that is based in Kandiyur and Bagavathi Amman Koil villages, of Coimbatore District. Literacy and collective livelihood are two arms chosen to start this processTwo action points were prioritized to pursue the goals to deal with education and livelihood. For education,student activitycenter was seen as the appropriate inroad into the community. Making use of the available spaces in the communityactivity centres were set up with nearly 40 children in both the villages. The children named it “Will Power Coaching Centre”. To improve livelihoods, we have decided to provide safe and sustainable jobs based on agriculture. Inbavanam, a five-acre land was purchased for this purpose. The aim was to set up a community-based farming collective.
