Our Story

Inbavanam

Inbavanam also known, as “happy forest” is an emerging concept for the sustainable development of economically and socially underprivileged community that is based in Kandiyur and Bagavathi Amman Koil villages, of Coimbatore District.

Literacy and collective elihood are two arms chosen to start this processTwo action points were prioritized to pursue the goals to deal with education and livelihood.

For education,student activitycenter was seen as the appropriate inroad into the community.

Inbavanam Farms

A 5.5 acre dry and arid land was purchased to empower marginal, landless farmers. They were brought together to be oriented in cooperative natural agriculture.

The land was cleared, terraced, and made ready for agriculture using both scientific knowledge and traditional wisdom. The land is divided into 15 cultivable plots that are given for free lease to landless agricultural labourers who desire to become farmer in their own land.

It is built using appropriate technology without compromising the beauty and strength. There are several green tech innovations included in the design and construction. Total recycling of water, rain water harvesting, use of solar technology, natural lighting, deployment of energy efficient technology, repurposing and upscaling old materials are just a few examples.

Inbavanam Community

Inbavanam community consists of our work areas. We are part of the Kandiyur community, a hamlet consisting of Dalit families. Additionally, we work in 25 tribal hamlets located in remote parts of Coimbatore and the Niligiris districts.

The work comprises of providing nutrition support using a simple health mix formulation, conducting an activity centre in the hamlets with the help of 5 community based volunteers and providing them with the support for the civil legal documentation.
